Easy

If your business qualifies as a Micro, Small, or Medium Enterprise, you can register for free on the government's Udyam portal. The process is entirely online, takes about 15 minutes, and you get your Udyam Registration Number immediately. No paperwork, no fees, no agent needed.

Udyam registration replaced the older Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) in July 2020. If you had a UAM, you need to re-register on the new portal to keep your benefits active.

Who Qualifies?

The government classifies MSMEs based on investment in plant and machinery and annual turnover:

Micro

Investment up to Rs 1 Cr

Turnover up to Rs 5 Cr

Small

Investment up to Rs 10 Cr

Turnover up to Rs 50 Cr

Medium

Investment up to Rs 50 Cr

Turnover up to Rs 250 Cr

Both manufacturing and service enterprises are eligible under the same limits since the 2020 revision.

What are the benefits of Udyam/MSME registration?

Good to Know

Udyam registration is based on self-declaration. You do not need any documents to upload during registration. The portal pulls data from your Aadhaar and Income Tax (PAN) records automatically.

What You Need Before You Start

Udyam Registration Checklist

  • Aadhaar number of the proprietor/managing partner/authorised signatory
  • PAN of the business entity (or personal PAN for proprietorships)
  • Business name and type (manufacturing or service)
  • Address of the main plant or office
  • Bank account details (IFSC code and account number)
  • Number of employees and investment figures
  • NIC code for your business activity (the portal helps you find it)

How to Register on the Udyam Portal

  1. 1

Go to the Udyam Registration portal

Visit udyamregistration.gov.in and pick new registration or re-registration if you had UAM.

  2. 2

    Verify your Aadhaar

Enter Aadhaar and name; verify OTP on the linked mobile. For companies/LLPs, use the authorised signatory's Aadhaar plus the organisation's PAN and GSTIN.

  3. 3

    Fill in business details

Add name, type (manufacturing/service), address, commencement date, bank details, headcount, and the correct NIC code from the dropdown.

  4. 4

    Declare investment and turnover

Declare investment in plant/machinery or equipment and annual turnover—the portal classifies you as Micro, Small, or Medium.

  5. 5

Submit and get your Udyam number

Review and submit—your Udyam Registration Number (e.g. UDYAM-XX-00-0000000) generates immediately; download or print the certificate on the portal.

One Enterprise, One Udyam Number

Each enterprise gets only one Udyam number, regardless of how many activities, products, or locations it has. If you have multiple businesses, each legally separate entity needs its own registration.

What should you do after Udyam registration?

Keep your details updated

The certificate is permanent but you should update investment and turnover figures whenever they change significantly.

Use your Udyam number everywhere

Quote it when applying for government schemes, bank loans, and tenders to unlock MSME benefits.
